Things to do before relocating:

  • Make an inventory of your possessions and sort out those, which you will need immediately after you move. That lot goes with you and the rest can go with the movers.
  • Sell or discard those items, which you will not need anymore. If any of your belongings fall into the category of belongings you want to keep but have no room for, you shall need to search for adequate storage options.
  • Arrange the transport to get to your new home. If you are driving, then arrange to have your car serviced to avoid breakdowns or car problems en route. In case you are considering a flight, train or bus, book tickets in advance.
  • Get started on your laundry. Wash, dry and iron dirty clothes so that the amount of things you need to do once you have reached your new home is less.
  • The same goes for the fridge. Start emptying the fridge at least a week before the move. Make sure the fridge is emptied, defrosted and cleaned before the packers come along.

Things to do on moving day:

  • Separate the bags to be carried by you from the ones that will be transported by the movers.
  • Keep aside passports, cash, important documents and other items, which you will need during the course of interstate moving.
  • Arrange for the gas and electricity at your old home to be turned off.
  • Some of your mails will still make its way to your old house. Leave your forwarding address with the new occupants.
  • Once the moving truck is packed and moving, do a walk through of the house.

Hiring competent interstate movers is a bonus since the majority of the responsibility is off your back. Following these simple guidelines will be an additional advantage to make interstate moving a lot easier for you.
